Dubai, UAE, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain Today News Live Updates: The Trump administration is confronting mounting discontent from allies in the Persian Gulf who have complained they were not given adequate time to prepare for the torrent of Iranian drones and missiles bombarding their countries in retaliation for strikes launched by the US and Israel. Officials from two Gulf countries said their governments were disappointed in the way the US has handled the war, particularly the initial attack on Iran last Saturday. They said their countries were not given advance notice of the US-Israeli attack and complained the US had ignored their warnings that the war would have devastating consequences for the entire region. One of the officials said that Gulf countries were frustrated and even angry that the US military has not defended them enough. He said there is a belief in the region that the operation has focused on defending Israel and American troops, while leaving Gulf countries to protect themselves and said that his country's stock of interceptors was "rapidly depleting." Like others in this story, the Gulf officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing a confidential diplomatic matter.

The impact of the conflict on UK energy prices is starting to trickle through. We have seen a 3p rise in average petrol prices and 5p on diesel prices. This has come through unusually quickly and in anticipation of an impact from crude oil prices. If this continues it will add to inflationary pressures. Crude oil prices have continued to creep up, and are now about 15% higher than pre-conflict.

Gas prices have settled about 80% higher and will, if sustained, lead to chunky rises in bills - but not until July. Labour's promised cut to the energy prices cap next month will go ahead first. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has also emphasised the need for energy security, which he defines as carrying on investment in domestic renewables.

Escalating conflict in the Middle East has pointed up the aviation sector’s heavy dependence on Gulf hubs, particularly Dubai Airports, which operates the world’s busiest international airport in Dubai. Following US and Israeli strikes on Iran, Gulf airspace closures, including disruptions affecting Dubai triggered widespread network interruptions across global airlines. Dubai, built into a major transit hub over four decades by Emirates, connects 110 countries with roughly 454,000 flights annually. The shutdown of major hubs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha has left authorities managing displaced passengers while attempting to restore connectivity and protect destination traffic, which accounts for about half of Dubai’s airport volumes. Dubai, UAE, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain Today News Live Updates: The Canadian and Australian prime ministers on Thursday called for a de-escalation of the Iran war but added the Iranians must never gain a nuclear weapon. Canada's Mark Carney and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese discussed the war during their meeting in Australia's capital, Canberra. The meeting came after news that a US submarine sank an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean and Turkiye said NATO defences intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Iran before it entered Turkiye's airspace. "We want to see a broader de-escalation of these hostilities with a broader group of countries than just the direct belligerents involved," Carney said at a press conference with Albanese. "We stress that that cannot be achieved unless we're in a position that Iran's ability to acquire a nuclear weapon, develop a nuclear weapon, and to export terrorism, is ended. So that process must lead to those outcomes," Carney added. He said the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, which were "showing tremendous restraint," should become involved in the de-escalation process.

Albanese said, "The world wants to see a de-escalation and wants to see Iran cease to spread the destinations of its attacks." "We're seeing Gulf states, that have not been involved, attacked across the board, including the attacks on civilian and tourist areas as well. But we also want to see the objectives achieved. I want to see the possibility of Iran getting a nuclear weapon removed once and for all," Albanese said. Questioned by a reporter, Carney could not rule out the Canadian military ever becoming involved in the conflict. "You've asked a fundamental hypothetical in a conflict that can spread very broadly," Carney said. "So one can never categorically rule out participation. We will stand by our allies when it makes sense," he added.

Dubai, UAE, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain Today News Live Updates: The US and Israel's joint war in Iran has already upended travel across the Middle East, stranding tens of thousands of people. And the future is anything but certain.

Experts stress that flights scheduled in the coming days and weeks could continue to see disruptions - causing ripple effects globally, especially as the war widens with retaliatory strikes in the Gulf states. Beyond the Middle East, airports in the Gulf serve as critical hubs connecting travellers going to Europe, Africa and Asia.

Amid airspace closures across the region, many carriers have been forced to either cancel flights or shift to longer routes. That's straining operating costs and ticket prices, both of which could become more expensive if airlines have to pay more for fuel the longer the war drags on. In the near future, experts recommend postponing unnecessary travel if possible, checking refund or insurance policies and, most importantly, monitoring safety advisories.
